useful when a large amount of data needs to be analysed and collected
Pros of qualitative research
richer and has greater depth- more likely to present a picture way of life and other peoples experiences, attitudes and beliefs
Case study
refers to the study of a limited number of examples- implies in depth account and the case is described across many variables

comparing a limited number of variables across a large number of cases
inductive research strategy
persons who make careful observations, conduct experiments and analyse data obtained- theory building- starts with data and no theory
deductive research strategy
begins with a question or problem that needs to be understood or explained-theory testing, no data

a commitment to revealing the everyday aspects of social life with minimal methodological intrusion
