Winter Ops Flashcards

1
Q

When icing conditions EXIST or are just ANTICIPATED when should the engine anti-ice be turned on?

A

Immediately after engine start and remain on during all ground operations whenever the temperature is 10°C or less and
1. there is visible moisture with 1 mile visibility or less
2. Ice snow slush or standing water is present on ramps taxiways or runways

Q

Under what cold conditions should the aircraft not be started without maintenance intervention

A

if the engine has been cold soaked for one hour or more with a temperature below -40°C Do not start the engine! Maintenance must heat the engine before starting.

Q

if oil pressure remains above the normal range even after the oil temperature has stabilized what should be done?

A

Shut down the engine. In this case allow 10 to 15 minutes to pass until trying again. This will allow the internal heat distribution of the engine to warm the oil.

Q

What is the recommended
1. stabilizer trim position
2. Pressurization mode selector position
3. outflow valve switch position
for securing the airplane at the end of a flight in the winter time?

A
  1. 4 units of trim - This prevents melting snow and ice from running into balance bay areas which can possibly freeze or lock controls
    • pressurization mode select- manual
  2. Outflow valve switch - Close
