737 Warning Systems Flashcards
What conditions will cause an intermittent Takeoff Configuration Warning?
Speed Brake
Parking Brakes
Flaps
Trim
In more detail:
TE Flaps - not in the 1 - 25 degree range or asymmetric
LE devices - not configured
Speed break lever - not down
Spoiler - Valve open which pressurizes interlock valve
Parking break - set
Stab trim - not in green ban.
What alerts does the EGPWS provide?
- Excessive descent rate
- Excessive terrain closure rate
- altitude loss after takeoff or go-around
- Unsafe terrain clearance when not in landing configuration
- Excessive deviation below glide slope
- Excessive deviation below glide path
What color is a TA alert?
How about an RA alert?
Yellow Circle
Red Square
When are Predictive Windshear Alerts (PWS) automatically available on takeoff and approach?
- Thrust levers set for takeoff ( there is a delay of several seconds for the weather radar to provide PWS alerts - or -
- In flight below 1200 ft RA
NOTE: Weather Radar automatically scans for windshear below 2300 ft but aural and visual alerts are only issued below 1200 ft RA.
NOTE: Predictive wind shear alerts can be enabled prior to takeoff by pushing the WXR switch on the EFIS panel.
Describe terrain alert colors displayed but the EGPWS and how to display them on the ND.
Select TERR on the EFIS while in MAP, center MAP, VOR or APP modes.
Dotted green: terrain is below aircraft’s altitude
Dotted red: represents terrain conflict
Dotted magenta: no terrain available
Solid Amber: look ahead terrain caution active
Solid red: look-ahead terrain warning active
What are the indications of a wind shear warning in the cockpit?
- Two tone siren followed by aural “WINDSHEAR”
- Red WINDSHEAR on both attitude indicators.
What are the indications of a Predictive Windshear Alert?
Caution Alerts
Warning Alerts
See attached for details
Describe the Overspeed Warning system.
Consists of clackers that can only be silenced by reducing Vmo/Mmo.
Describe landing gear warning system.
Green -down and locked
Red - gear not down and locked with either thrust lever at idle and below 800 ft AGL
A steady warning to alert crew whenever a landing is attempted and any gear not down and locked.
What are the indications when approaching an MCP set altitude?
- Selected altitude Alert - white box shows around the altitude display between 750 ft and 200 ft before reaching the altitude.
- Current Altitude Alert - white box around the current altitude becomes bold between 750 and 200 feet before reaching the selected altitude.
What are the indications/warnings when deviating from an MCP altitude?
More than 200 ft off a momentary tone sounds and the Current Altitude box turns amber and begins to flash.
Explain the meaning of the PSEU (Proximity Switch Electronic Unit) light.
A fault is detected - or - and overwind exit flight lock fails to disengage when commanded.
Describe the TERR (terrain) elevation display.

How many seconds after the WXR button is pushed will predictive winds hear alerts become available to the crew?
12 seconds due to warm up time on the radar.
