- Lost Plane Homing
What are the Pre-Embarkation Proficiency requirements? (3)
Max extent practicable:
- Should fly minimum 9 hours w/n 45 days
- Shall obtain night and instrument currency before embarkation flight
For intervals less than 45 days between embarked operations:
- Should fly minimum 6 hours and achieve night and instrument currency before next embarkation
What is the night coupler currency? (3)
Shall fly 2 windline rescue or Night/IMC dip to dip patterns to auto approach to coupled hover at night within 60 days
Shall not fly night SAR (PG) if not current
Shall fly patterns with current PIC to regain currency
What is instrument currency? (3)
2 hours in 60 days
Simulated or actual in SIM or A/C
Shall not fly any other missions as PIC until recurrent with a current PIC
What are our crew rest requirements?
Shall not be scheduled to brief for flight until 10 hours after completion of post flight duties
Radius of Action limits? (4)
Shipboard radius is 150NM or operable comm/nav range whichever is less
Time spent beyond 150NM shall be limited to minimum required to accomplish mission
One way limits:
- 150NM ship to ship and shore to ship
- 200NM ship to shore to a point in which a safe landing can be made
What procedures shall not be performed with PAX or on Orientation Flights? (5)
Simulated emergencies
Practice Autos
Intentional Degradations
Ordnance release
*to include Midshipman FAM flights
What is mandatory for all orientees unless waived?
Naval Aviation Survival Training Program (NASTP)
What are the Low Level Flight Procedures? (6)
Unless needed for operational requirements, directed by controlling agencies, or on approved ranges the following minimum AGL altitudes shall be observed:
Overland: Pop - 100-‘ ; UnPop - 500’
Overwater: Day 50’ ; NVD - 100’ ; Unaided - 150’
**flight to 50’ is for operation or tactical training to support mission or training objectives
Coupled HVR: 70’
**may go no lower than 40’ for live hoist operations at PIC discretion
SACT: Day - 100’ ; Night - 500’
TERF: 200’ only on approved LL routes and ranges
How should checklists be completed? (3)
CHALLENGE-REPLY-REPLY up to rotor engagement
CHALLENGE-REPLY after rotor engagement
May be performed silently by PNAC to avoid interference or safety of flight except where verbal confirmation from another crewmember is required
What shall be done if the STAB AUTO MODE PBS is not illuminated when AC power is applied?
Shall visually check the STAB lock pins prior to flight
When should the Rescue Hoist Op Check be completed and why?
Should be completed on the 1st flight of the day to ensure SAR capability
What is required on first takeoff of each flight? (2)
SE A/S and Stab programming shall be called
Stab programming shall be called after reengagement of STAB AUTO MODE PB for simulated and actual failures
When shall the Landing Checklist be completed?
When transitioning from pad to runway and vice versa
When shall the In-Flight Mission Change Checklist be completed?
Any time the mission is altered from what was briefed.
How far aft can we go while rotors are turning?
Shall not proceed aft of CM Dispenser unless arming or dearming
When shall we ground taxi?
Shall ground taxi vice air taxi to greatest extent possible when the possibility of damage from rotor wash exists
Use of seatbelts? (2)
Seat and gunners belts shall be used to max extent possible
All occupants should be in crash worthy seats with harness secured during takeoff and landing
Flight Demo Guidelines? (5)
- Wings level, of 1-2 aircraft (waiver up to 4)
- Only single pass over fixed point at specific time
- No lower than 500’ AGL
- No slower than 60 KIAS
- Any deviations from above shall be requested through Type Wing for TYCOM approval on case by case basis
What are the DET Concurrent Operation restrictions? (3)
DETs with 2 helos on single spot ships using RSD shall not conduct concurrent ops unless emergency landing is available within 50NM for duration of evolution
50NM alternate landing site applies to missions where parent ship is intended point of landing for both A/C.
50NM alternate does not apply to fly-ons for sked embarkations and mixed manned/unmanned flight ops
When should APU be started if required in-flight to support essential operations?
Should be started on deck to max extent possible
What is the training VERTREP Power Margin?
Shall be 10% between MRP and Max Power Required when load is lifted from the deck
What are the RADALT Discipline/Variable Index Setting requirements? (4)
Night overwater below 500’ AGL, consider setting DH to NLT 10% of current altitude
For ship environment, DH should be set that best facilitates CRM
Each member shall verbalize DH settings and warning tones
All members should acknowledge altitude warning system tones, but not expected in traffic pattern
What groundspeed should PNAC adjust LAT/LONG VEL POTS prior to calling “down dome”?
No greater than 2 knots drift (does not apply to cable angle mode)
