Engines Flashcards
What type of engines do we have?
Front drive turboshaft
What are the sections of our engine?
- Inlet
- Compressor
- Combustor
- Turbine
- Exhaust
What are the inlet section components? (6)
- Cowling
- Swirl Frame
- Front Frame
- Main Frame
- Accessory Section
- Scroll Case
How does air flow through the inlet section? (3)
Through the cowling that can be heated with 5th stage bleed air via the inlet anti-ice valve to prevent ice on engine inlet.
Inlet is also perforated with small slits to allow 5th stage bleed air to heat the exposed inlet surface.
Air passes through swirl vanes for rotation inside the Inlet Particle Separator(IPS) and pushes all debris outward into the collection scroll and dumped overboard by the blower. Then clean air passes through deswirl vanes for smooth clean air to the compressor.
What is the type of compressor?
5 stage axial, Single stage centrifugal rotor/stator
What does the combustor section contain?
Annular chamber, 2 ingiters, 12 injectors
What is the Gas Generator Turbine?
2 stage, air cooled, axial Ng turbine that drives the compressor and AGB
What is the Power Turbine? (3)
2 stage Np turbine that turns inside of Ng driveshaft
Extends from front of engine and connects to the high speed shaft that connects to the input module on the transmission
TGT sensed between Np and Ng
What % of airflow is used for combustion? Remaining % used for?
- 30% for combustion.
- (PECT) Remaining for compressor inlet temp air (T2), compressor discharge pressure air (P3), Cooling, Engine oil seal pressurization
What are the components in the main frame section? (3)
Oil tank
Sight gauge
AGB supports
How is the AGB driven?
Driven by a rotor from a radial drive shaft from the Ng turbine drive shaft.
What mounts onto the MGB? (2)
Rear face provides mounting for (HOSI) HMU, ODV, Starters, IPS
Front face provides mounting for (EA) Engine driven fuel boost pump and Alternator
