White Blood Cells Flashcards
1
Q
How do white blood cells defend against pathogens
A
They engulf pathogens(this is called phagocytosis). The pathogen is then digested
2) some white blood cells produce antibodies. These attach to the antigens on the pathogen. This causes the pathogens to ‘clump’ together, making it easier to engulf them
3) some white blood cells produce antitoxins to neutralise the harmful effects of toxins produced by bacteria/fungi
2
Q
Two types of nucleus
A
Lobed nucleus and large nucleus
3
Q
What is a large nucleus
A
They release y shaped antibodies
4
Q
What is a lobed nucleus
A
A lobed nucleus ‘engulfs’ the pathogen that has been attacked by the large nucleus’antibodies
