The process of retaining information over time.
What is the 1st stage of the memory process?
Encoding.
What is the 2nd stage of the memory process?
Storage.
What is the 3rd stage of the memory process?
Retrieval.
Define encoding:
The process of transforming information to put it into memory.
Define storage:
The process of maintaining information in our minds.
Define retrieval:
The process of taking a memory out of storage.
What are the two types retrieval?
- Recall.
- Recognition.
Define memory recall:
Consciously re-accessing a memory without having to be reminded of the memory first.
Define memory recognition:
Retrieving a memory once they’re shown the memory again, because it feels familiar to them.
