Children treat their caregivers as someone they can quickly turn to whenever they are scared or anxious.
How can you tell if a child treats their caregiver as a safe base?
As long as their caregiver is nearby the child is happy to explore surroundings.
What is the 2nd behaviour of attachment?
Separation anxiety.
Define separation anxiety…
When children become distressed when they are separated from their attachment figure.
What happens when a child shows separation anxiety?
Other people cannot comfort them - only the caregiver can.
What is the 3rd behaviour of attachment?
Stranger anxiety.
Define stranger anxiety…
When children display distress in the presence of unfamiliar people, instead prefer the company of their attachment figure.
