How does an airplane generate lift?

A

An airplane generates lift because the leading edge deflects some of the relative wind downward, and the air goes running below the airfoil, creating an upward force that generates lift. The air that goes above the wing flows faster, which means it exerts less pressure than the air flowing below it. This is because faster moving air molecules are less dense and therefore have less pressure than slow-moving air molecules, which are more dense and exert more pressure. This is why the airplane generates lift.

Some molecules go over and some under the wing, but the laws of physics tell us that they must meet in the end of the trailing edge, and to do this the molecule flowing over needs to move faster than the one under because there is more camber up there so it has to travel a longer distance. This is what causes lift.
