Weight & Balance Flashcards
What is the definition of Basic Operating Weight (BOW)?
Standard aircraft items + crew
What is the maximum baggage compartment floor loading?
2500 lbs
65 lbs / square ft
What is the definition of Zero Fuel Weight?
BOW + crew + passengers + cargo
What is ramp weight?
Zero Fuel Weight + fuel
What is the center of gravity?
CG is a point about which the aircraft would balance, normally measured in inches aft of the reference datum or % MAC.
What is MAC?
Mean Aerodynamic Chord is the distance from LEMAC to TEMAC.
What are LEMAC and TEMAC?
Leading edge and trailing edge of the MAC.
What is the reference datum (reference data line)?
A reference point on an airframe from which the horizontal arm can be measured.
What is the horizontal arm?
Distance along the longitudinal axis from the RDL to the CG of an item, usually measured in inches to a fuselage station.
What is a fuselage station?
The horizontal distance (called an ARM, usually expressed in inches) from RDL used in a formula with weight to determine moment.
What is a moment in reference to the weight and balance formula?
The product of a weight and its arm, expressed in inch-pounds.
Gulfstream indexes the number and divides by 10000 for simplicity in calculations.
Why is the zero fuel CG arm (inches) converted to % MAC?
To determine the correct elevator trim setting for takeoff using the trim table.
What does the correct elevator trim setting provide for takeoff?
Provides a “no additional elevator trim” setting (to maintain V2) in the unlikely event that an engine failure occurs on takeoff.
Where is the reference datum line located on the G550?
4 inches aft of the nose of the radome.
What is the G550 maximum ramp weight?
91400 lbs
