What items must be set for the airport / runway symbols to appear in the HUD?

Answer 1

• Touchdown zone elevation (TDZE) in the HUD menu,
• Vertical angle set and boxed in the HUD menu,
• ILS frequency tuned and received on the MCDU tuning page,
• Glide slope off the top of the scale,
• Aircraft within 2000 ft of TDZE
• HUD must be in the NORMAL display mode, not the CLEAR mode.

When does the runway symbol replace the airport symbol?

At 350 ft radar altitude, the runway symbol joins the airport symbol, and at 325 ft radar altitude the airport symbol disappears.

When does the flare cue appear?

At 100 ft radar altitude. At 50 ft RA, the flare cue surrounds the flight path vector.

Can the HUD be used to fly LDA approaches?

Yes, but the airport/runway symbol will not align with the actual runway.

What is the function of the EVS key on the display controller HUD menu?

Toggles the EVS system ON and OFF, displaying the EVS symbols and video on the HUD.
It also turns on the FLIR camera.

Toggles only the FLIR camera ON and OFF

What is the function of the NUC key on the display controller HUD menu?

The NUC key (Non-Unity Correction) toggles the NUC between ON and OFF, and when selected it places a uniform heat source in front of the FLIR sensor so the processor can equalize sensor output by individual pixel.

When the EVS camera is on and the flaps are selected to 10°.

A NUC correction will generally last for 2 hours and 30 min.

No, clouds are too thick and the refresh rate of the camera will not see strobe lights.

Advection and marine fog are difficult for the EVS to penetrate due to a lack of temperature contrast.
