Realtime
Closely resembles a face-to-face or phone
Not as flexible as asynchronous
Asynchronous communication
Takes place outside realtime. It enables flexibility there is less pressure to act or respond it lacks a sense of immediacy and drama There's a less immediate interaction Can be out of date by response
Social networks
A group of web-based services in which a person creates a public profile which they use to communicate with other members of the service

We can communicate accurate, rational and emotional messages via media

What are the advantages and disadvantages of EMC for Heath professionals?
Advantages - avoid stigma - removes geographical boundaries - ease of access - patient and their families can be better informed to make decisions Disadvantages - validity / reliability of information - barriers to access traditional services

The program’s that have all the trappings to make them look professional however are not
