Define the 8 hard soft methods of influence

Hard tactics, behavioural change by applying power:

  1. Silent authority - legitimate power without referencing
  2. Assertiveness - coercive power through pressure or threats.
  3. Information Control - distributes info to reframe situation
  4. Coalition Formation When people lack sufficient power alone to influence others in the organization, they might form a coalition
  5. Upward appeal - support from higher authority

Soft tactics – personal sources of power

  1. Persuasion - argument changes attitudes and behaviour
  2. Ingratiation / impression mment - targeted attempt to be liked
  3. Exchange- promising benefits for compliance
