Define communication and it’s importance in the organisation.

Forming – encoding - transmitting – receiving– decoding then
Feedback – encoding– trasnsmitting– decoding - understanding
Effective communication occurs when the sender’s thoughts are transmitted to and understood by the intended receiver. List influences on this:
- Comms channel proficiency
- Similar Codebooks
- Shared mental models of context
- Experience at encoding messsages
Two main types of communication channels are verbal (anything with words) and nonverbal (anything else). Discuss the pros & cons of email.

Discuss the effects of non verbal communication

Preferred communication channel is a function of social acceptance and media richness. Discuss.
Social acceptance: how well the communication medium is approved and supported by the organisation, teams, and individuals.
Media Richness: the amount of data carrying capacity.
• Non routine and ambiguous situations require rich media.
List some barriers to communication
barriers create noise in the communication process, inhibiting the information exchange. Eg • Perception • Language Issues • Jargon • Filtering • Info overload • Cultural difference • Gender differences
