Week 9 Antitubuler Flashcards
Antitubercular drugs cause
caused by acid fast bacillus mycobacterium tuberculosis
How is TB spread
Transmitted from person to person by droplets disbursed in the air through coughing and sneezing
Symptoms of TB
Anorexia, cough, sputum production, fever, night sweats, weight loss, and positive sputum
What type of drug is more effective on TB
Multi drug therapy (2 phases)
First initial face lasts 2 months while second last 4-7 months
Isoniazid use
Tread TB, prophylactic measure against TB by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis and metabolized in liver
SA to isoniazid
NVC, drowsiness, tremors, rash, blurred vision, photosensitivity, tinnitus dizziness, dry mouth
Adverse reaction to isoniazid
Psychotic behavior, peripheral neuropathy, VTB6 deficiency
Rifampin what to know
Turns the urine an orange and soft contact me be permanently discolored
Mucosos
Infection caused by a fungus could be superficial or systemic
Oportunistic
Occurs in the immuno compromised or debilitated population
Non opportunistic
Histoplasmosis and blastomycosis
Systemic antifungals
Lungs, CNS, abdomen and usually transmitted through inhalation into lungs from dust, soul, or animal droppings
Superficial infections
Acquired by contact:
Mucous membranes, hair, nails, moist skin, overgrowth of normal flora flow wining ABC cause superficial fungal infections
Antifungals
Also known as antimycotic
Either fungistatic or fungicidal depending on the sustainability of the fungus and the dosage
Fluconazole
Effective against Candidasis
Fluconazole use
Against Candida infections but increase permeability of fungal cell membrane
Fluconazole drug food interaction
Increase PY when taking Warfarin and increases hypoglycemia when taken with oral sulfonylureas
Side effects to Fluconazole
NVDA h/a, stomach cramping
Nystatin
PO or topically to td Candida infection
Poorly absorbed the other G.I. tract oral only given for intestinal candidiasis
Metronidazole (flag)
Used to treat various disorders of the G.I. tract serious gram-negative infections
Avoid ETOH
Viruses
Intracellular organism that uses the cell to reproduce by using their DNA and RNA to generate more viruses
Influenza
Highly contagious viral infection that affects the nose throat and lungs with an abrupt onset
Influenza a
Causes a mod to severe infection
Influenza B
Usually causes mild illness in children
Influenza C
Very rare in humans
Acyclovir use
Against HSV1/2 by interfering with viral synthesis of DNA
elimination in iron and breast milk
Acyclovir rug food reaction
Increase nephro neurotoxicity with aminoglycocides
SE and AR acyclovir
NVD, HA, rash, tremors, lethargy
Ar: urticaria, anemia, gingival, hyperplasia, neuropathy, seizures, nephrotoxicity, bone marrow depression
Hepatitis B
Serious liver infection caused by hepatitis B virus transmission is usually via needlestick, intimate sexual contact, childbirth
Found in all body fluids
Hepatitis B SE
NVD, jaundice, malaise, and mygalgia
Gamma globulin
Rich and antibodies found in the blood and provides passive immunity to a virus by blocking the penetration of a virus into the host cell
Given IM/IV
Antimalarial drugs SE/AR
G.I. upset, cranial nerve VIII involvement, renal impairment, and cardiovascular effects
Helmienths
Parasitic worms that feed on host tissue most common seen in intestines
