Week 9 - AHBC Crossings Flashcards
What circumstances would require an AHBC to be taken under local control?
SWETFFS
- SLW needed.
- Wrong direction move needed (and no wrong direction controls)
- Engineering work affecting the crossing.
- Traffic flow.
- Failed train within crossing controls.
- Failure of crossing equipment.
- Stop (train needs to stop within crossing controls)
If an AHBC fails, what should your immediate actions be?
- Place or maintain signals to danger to protect the crossing and apply reminders
- Advise other signallers if necessary
- Report the failure to control
- Arrange for the crossing to be taken under local control
- Arrange for Civil Police to be told
Road traffic lights are working at an AHBC when no train is approaching. What instructions must you give someone who calls requesting permission to cross? (TS9, 3.5.1)
- Inform them to wait for an attendant to arrive, or
- Take an alternative route
If road traffic signals are not working and the barriers have failed in the raised position at an AHBC, how will you deal with trains?
Not authorise them to pass over the crossing until an attendant arrives
You have received reports of an alleged failure of barriers at an AHBC. What must you instruct the attendant before local control is taken? (TS9, 3.9.2)
Observe the passage of trains and tell you about any irregularities in the operation of the crossing
You have received reports of an alleged failure of barriers at an AHBC. When can you allow the attendant to take local control? (TS9, 3.9.2)
Only when the S&T give you permission to do so, unless it is certain the crossing equipment has failed.
An AHBC has suffered a power failure. What are your actions? (TS9, 3.5.2)
- Tell S&T
- Signal trains normally over the crossing for 6 hours
After that, until power is restored, you must:
-Advise each driver to approach the crossing at caution and not pass over it until the driver has made sure that it is safe to do so
If the phones have failed at an AHBC, but the barriers and road traffic lights are working, how would you signal trains?
- Caution trains over the crossing
- Instruct to cross only if safe to do so
- Clear the signal
If the road traffic lights have failed at an AHBC, until an attendant arrives, how would you signal trains?
- Caution trains over the crossing
- Instruct to cross only if safe to do so
- Clear the signal
If the Barriers have failed at an AHBC, until an attendant arrives, how would you signal trains?
- Caution trains over the crossing
- Instruct to cross only if safe to do so
- Clear the signal
