Week 9 - Acute neuro disorders Flashcards
1
Q
3 types of cerebral edema
A
- Vasogenic
- Cytotoxic
- Interstitial
2
Q
Which type of cerebral edema is clinically most significant
A
Vasogenic - BBB affected
3
Q
Causes of Vasogenic edema
A
Tumours in brain
head trauma
abscess
toxins
4
Q
Cytotoxic edema is
A
a tissue issue
caused by lesions or trauma
tissue hypoxia happens
Na/K atpase pump fails and water goes into the cells and that is bad
5
Q
Interstitial edema is
A
when CSF can’t leave the ventricles so fluid is stuck inside
there’s pressure so the fluid leaks into extracellular space instead
cause is hydrocephalus
