Week 8: Project Development and Management Flashcards
are tools to achieve the planned goals
Project
A group of activities that have to be performed in a logical sequence to meet pre-set objectives outlined by the client
• A ________ is “a unique set of activities with a beginning and an end, undertaken to meet some established goals, objectives and deliverables within defined constraints of scope, quality, time, cost and stakeholder or customer satisfaction.”
Project
Why Plan and Manage a Project?
• Demand to do more with less, often exacerbated by urgency and quality standard.
• Increasing complexity of project environment (internal and external factors) requires tighter coordination and need to ensure internal consistency.
• Multiple stakeholder involvement.
• Ensure value for money! Determining the resources required.
• Allocating responsibility, communicating among all those involved, coordinating activities and people;
• Controlling progress, estimating term of completion and handling unexpected events and changes;
• Planning is also a basis for the authority of a project manager, i.e., for budgeting and financial control.
• The application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to a broad range of activities in order to meet the requirements of a particular project (ISO 10006).
• A temporary organization that is needed to produce a unique and pre-defined outcome or
result at a pre-specified time using pre- determined resources (PRINCE2-UK).
