is an on-going evidence driven process of strengthening the abilities of individuals, organizations, and/or systems to perform core functions sustainably, and to continue to improve and develop over time
Capacity building
Three Domains of Organizational Capability
• Strategic direction

These aim to improve organizational performance which is the combination of effectiveness to mission fulfilment, efficiency of program delivery, relevance to the external environment and financial viability.
Organizational capacity building
systematic process that uses a range of interventions to improve the ability of an organization to perform. Normally, an intervention for _______ ________ _________ focuses on the creation and maintenance of systems, and management of work practices.

Commonly designed by outsiders: “as if villagers could not develop themselves…this infantilization of the deprived population…is the
primary reason why development activities don’t take root in the life of communities..”
Three Main Issues in Cap. Building

• The usual 3-5 years time frame of development organizations are inadequate (Peter Morgan) - Capacity to build capacity

• Overstressed, unprepared in the
field
• Bounded by the organization’s mandate
• Lack of money
Going around and motivate people on a one-to-one basis to do something on community issues and this refers to agitation. Aspect of agitation that are useful are: Self interest, morality, rights, honor, shame or anger
