Week 7 - The Medial Thigh Muscles Flashcards
Which nerve supplies the medial compartment of the thigh? Give its nerve roots.
The obturator nerve, L2 - L4
What are the actions of adductor longus?
Adduction and medial rotation of the thigh at the hip
What is the action of adductor brevis?
Adduction of the thigh at the hip
Why is adductor brevis an anatomical landmark?
It lies between the anterior and posterior divisions of the obturator nerve
What are the 2 parts of adductor magnus?
The adductor part
The hamstring part
What are the actions of adductor magnus?
Adductor part:
Adducts thigh at hip
Flexes leg at hip
Hamstring part:
Adducts thigh at hip
Extends thigh at hip
What is the innervation of adductor magnus?
Adductor part = obturator nerve
Hamstring part = tibial nerve
What are the actions of gracilis?
Adducts thigh at hip
Flexes leg at knee
What is the action of obturator externus?
External rotation of the thigh (the clue is in the name)
What is the general action of the medial thigh muscles?
Hip adduction
