Concept of leaderhsip
- No leader without followers (it’s about relationship between leaders and followers)
- Help to define collective goals
- Not about power over others

People used to think that a great leader needs to be tall, man, good-looking etc…

- Agreeableness (for team cohesion)
- Openness (risk-taking)

- Autocratic leaders: self oriented and give order
- Democratic leader: task-oriented and consult others
- Laissez-faire: play oriented and happy to go with the flow

- Democratic works well in non stressful situations
- Autocratic works well in crisis or high stress situation
- Laissez-faire better when group motivated and self-directed

Based on the exchange of material goods (bonus) and immaterial goods (respect)

Can be perceived as
- Close and valued members (high quality relationship)
- Normal members (poor relationship

- -> Subordinates are favoured and recive benefits (material or immaterial)
- Managers give autonomy and responsibility
- Subordinates internalise group goals

- Subordinates receive fewer benefits
- Little attemps by the leader to motivate them
- Simple compliance with internalisation of the goals

- Based on Social Identity theory
- Leaders are more efficient through the sense of self derived from group membership –> create connecitons between members
