Innervation: Femoral n. L2-L4
Primary Action:
Extend leg at knee joint
steadies hip joint
assists iliopsoas w flexion of thigh

Structure: Vastus lateralis mm.
Origin: greater trochanter and lateral lip of linea aspera of femur
Insertion: Via quadriceps tendon and independent attachments to base of patella, indirectly via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity, medial and lateral vasti also attach to tibia and patella via aponeuroses (med/lat. patellar retinacula)
Innervation: Femoral n. L2-L4
Primary Action:
Extend leg at knee joint

Structure: Vastus intermedius mm.
Origin: anterior and lateral surfaces of shaft of femur
Insertion: Via quadriceps tendon and independent attachments to base of patella, indirectly via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity, medial and lateral vasti also attach to tibia and patella via aponeuroses (med/lat. patellar retinacula)
Innervation: Femoral n. L2-L4
Primary Action:
Extend leg at knee joint

Structure: Vastus medialis mm.
Origin: intertrochanteric line and medial lip of linea aspera of femur
Insertion: Via quadriceps tendon and independent attachments to base of patella, indirectly via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity, medial and lateral vasti also attach to tibia and patella via aponeuroses (med/lat. patellar retinacula)
Innervation: Femoral n. L2-L4
Primary Action:
Extend leg at knee joint

Structure: Adductor Longus mm.
Origin: body of inferior ramus of pubis
