6 Steps to Ethical Decision Making (Josephson Institute of Ethics Model)

- Stop and think: recognize the ethical decision and avoid making a rash decision
- Clarify goals- understanding goals can help us determine our desired or expected outcome
- Determine facts - consider source of information and if its credible
- Develop options - brainstorm a list of options
- Consider consequences - who will be affected by the choice? what good and harm can come of it?
- Choose, monitor, modify - make your choice, then consider if it was the right one, what you might do different next time
