What is a leader?
A leader engages and influences others
Identifies needs of clients and encourages others to engage in actions that meet these needs
What is a follower?
Followership: the upward influence of individuals on their leaders and their teams
Contribute to the team, raise relevant concerns
What is mentorship?
Mentorship a formal, supportive, reciprocal relationship between two or more health professionals that has the potential to result in professional growth and development for both mentors and mentees
Why is theory important in nursing?
It helps to describe, explain, and predict everyday experiences
Guides assessment, interventions, evaluation

What are relationally focused leaders?
consider relationships rather than tasks to be the foundation for achieving positive change or outcomes
What are task focused leaders?
tend to focus on the tasks to be completed or on the transactions between leaders, colleagues, and followers that are required to complete the tasks, rather than on the relationships between individuals within the organization

Describe the term “it depends” in relation to scope of practice
Scope of practice is always evolving in the nursing profession in order to meet the changing needs of patient populations and the healthcare system. Leaders must embrace the impermanence of scope of practice, instead of assuming that the foundation will never change.
