The horizontal lines are:
- Subcostal plane: passes between the inferior border of the 10th costal cartilages
- Transtubercular plane: Passes between the iliac tubercles which are located approx 5cm posterior to the ASIS at the level of L5
Vertical planes:
- Midclavicular planes: passes from the midpoint of the clavicles to the midpoint of the inguinal ligaments
