What is the psychodynamic theory of personality
First proposed by frued who believed that physiological events have causes which dictate our choices, thus we are viewd as without true choice. Motivation is thus unconscious.
Jung then proposed that there are two types of unconscious behaviour at play, our personal un which is comprised of repressed information and that of the collected which are inherited memories/ stereotypes.
What are the three levels of awareness/personality according to Freud?
Id: primitive drives/ impulses, totally unconscious
Super ego: morality
- overdeveloped: guilt prone
- underdeveloped: risk for psychopathy
Ego: negotiate Id and superego
What is the humanistic per see give to personality?
That people are inherently good, they all hav potential for positives improvement and that all people have free will and self-awareness
What is the psychodynamic perspectivive towards personality?
They believe that personality is forceful, changing and a conflicting process shaped by life/sexual drive and death/aggressive drive. Y
What is the difference between collectivist and individualist cultures?
Individualist countries are more individual and believe in the selfs needs and goals. They tend to be self-confident and assertiveness and these values are highly valued.
Collectiveist culture however believes e in the community as a whole and priorities this along with values of conformity and discipline
