Week 12 Flashcards
1
Q
What are inferential statistics
A
Methods used to make conclusions about populations based on sample data. Thus it is the probability of observing an experimental results.
2
Q
What are the steps for inferential statistics
A
- Define the null and alternative hypothesis
- Calculate the probability fo the null (p-Value stat. Test)
- Decide whether to accept or reject null.
3
Q
what do z scores do
A
Define how extreme an observation is. The more extreme the less likely it is to be observed.
4
Q
What test to do if we compare the samples two means between a) independant smaples or b) matched pairs
A
A) independant t-test samples
B) paired sample t-test
5
Q
What comparison to do when comparing one sample to a population mean or reference value when the a) SD is know b) SD is unknown
A
A) z-test
B) one sample t-test
