organization may push for one specific form of culture
What is a Formalized culture vs an Informal one?
formalized cultures are where organizations have a mission statement and clearly articulated values, rules, dress code
informal ; organically developing within the organization
what are symbols in Workplace Culture?
particular expressions or symbols that convey beliefs
convey attitudes or norms about culture, vocabularies
dress - different styles in different occupations reflect certain organizations or occupations
What is Subculture?
values and rules, may come into conflict with each other
what is socialization within Occupations?
learning the main values of the workplace, like giving good service, working well with a team, staying competitive, and respecting how the company runs things
What is a key Performance Indicator?
indicating efficiency or how much cost is saved
demonstrating how well the business is achieving their performance goals
knowing how people get promotions, how they move ahead

come with a set of expectations, what people learn in terms of socialization within an organization

you’re not only socialized when you join a job, but you start to anticipate the next stage when you are actually within the organization

anticipate responsibilities, roles, and develop a professional identity

to attract middle class workers to law wage retail jobs, employers appeal to their consumer interests
by aligning job roles with the personal interests and lifestyles of potential employees , retailers make these positions more attractive despite their low pay and lack of benefits
What helps reinforcement of social inequalities?
Aesthetic labor helps reinforce job separation and discrimination based on race and gender, while also promoting consumer obsession with appearance

Officers are formally and informally socialized into a culture that emphasizes constant danger and the need for heightened vigilance

In the name of safety, officers engage in behaviors that contravene departmental policies, such as not wearing seat belts or engaging in unauthorized high-speed driving
