Week 3: Turbine Auxiliaries Flashcards
What is the function of the Turbine Lube Oil System?
To provide oil to lubricate and cool the turbine, generator, and exciter bearings.
Also provides oil to the thrust bearing wear detectors, generator seal oil system, and bearing lift pumps.
What pumps make up the Turbine Lube Oil System?
Main Shaft Oil Pump
Motor Suction Pump
Turbine Driven Booster Pump
Turning Gear Oil Pump
Emergency Bearing Oil Pump
What is the function of the Turbine Main Shaft Oil Pump?
To provide the Turbine Shaft the necessary oil for operation, drawing suction from the Motor Suction Pump when not at full rpms and from the Turbine Driven Booster Pump when at full speed.
What is the function of the Turbine Motor Suction Pump?
To provide oil to the Main Shaft Oil Pump until the Turbine reaches ~95% of full speed.
What is the function of the Turbine Driven Booster Pump?
To provide oil to the Main Shaft Oil Pump when the Turbine is at full speed.
What is the function of the Turbine Turning Gear Oil Pump?
To supply oil to the bearings when the turbine is on the turning gear.
What is the function of the Turbine Emergency Bearing Oil Pump?
To supply oil to the bearings when AC power is not available.
What is the function of the Turbine Bearing Lift Oil System?
To reduce the torque requirements of the turning gear motor by lifting the shaft off of the bearings, and to keep the turning gear teeth stresses at a safe level.
What is the function of the Turbine Turning Gear?
To prevent shaft distortion when it is being heated or cooled by slowly rotating the shaft. Requires bearing oil pressure and at least one lift oil pump to be running in order to be used.
What is the function of the Turbine Steam Sealing System?
To prevent steam from leaking out of the turbine along the shaft and to prevent air from entering; this ensures that steam does not enter the turbine building and allows for a vacuum to be maintained in the condenser.
What is the function of the Turbine Exhaust Hood Spray?
To limit exhaust hood temperatures during startup at low load operations.
What is the function of the Turbine Condenser Air Removal System?
To remove air and non-condensable gases from the condenser.
During startup, this system establishes condenser vacuum, and during normal ops it maintains it.
