Week 3: Service Water and Component Cooling Water Flashcards
What is the function of the Service Water System?
To circulate water from the Unit Cooling Tower basin through plant auxiliary components and back to the cooling tower via 3 pumps.
What is the function of the Essential Service Water System?
To circulate water from the ultimate heat sink through ESF components required for safe shutdown of the reactor following an accident, and returns water to the ultimate heat sink cooling towers via 2 pumps.
What is the function of the Ultimate Heat Sink?
To supply the cooling water necessary for safe shutdown, cooldown, and maintenance of the cooldown condition for 30 days without makeup. Cooled by 4 Cooling towers, 2 per train.
During normal operations, what SW system is supplying water to the plant loads?
SW is supplying water to both the safety related and non-safety related loads.
What happens to the SW system when a SIS is initiated?
ESW isolates from SW
ESW pumps start
Flow to containment air coolers increases
Flow to CCW decreases
What is the function of Closed Cooling Water?
This system provides cooling to various oil heat exchangers. It is cooled by the SW system, and provides a barrier for the release of industrial contaminants.
What is the function of the Component Cooling Water?
To remove heat from plant components during normal ops, cooldowns, and post-accident conditions
To serve as an intermediate system between the primary fluid and the ESW system in order to prevent radioactive leakage into the environment.
Describe the components of the CCW system.
The CCW system consists of 2 trains of 2 CCW pumps, 1 Hx, and 1 Surge tank. Each Hx is cooled by SW during normal ops, ESW during an emergency.
