Week 1: Condensate and Feedwater Flashcards
What is the function of the Main Condenser?
To recieve the exhaust steam from the LP turbines and condense it back to a liquid state via heat transfer with the circ water system.
Three stages: LP -> IP -> HP
What is the function of the condensate pumps?
To take condensate from the condenser hotwells and pass it (at an increased pressure) into a common pipe via 3 pumps, where it is purified via demineralizers.
What is the function of the Condensate Demineralizer System?
To maintain the required purity of the feedwater via 6 deep bed demineralizers.
What is the function of the Low Pressure Heaters?
To pass flow from the condensate pumps through 3 trains of 4 heaters each in order to reheat the incoming feedwater to approximately 320F for increased efficiency.
The heat is supplied by LP extraction steam.
What is the function of the Main Feedwater pumps?
To increase the condensate water pressure and supply the resulting feedwater to the SGs.
At low power, fed by Main Steam.
At high power, fed by MSR outlet extraction steam.
What is the function of the High Pressure Heaters?
To pass flow from the feedwater pumps through 2 trains of 3 heaters each in order to heat the incoming feedwater to approximately 440F for increased efficiency.
The heat is supplied by HP extraction steam.
What is the function of the Feedwater Control Valves?
To control SG level per the SG level control program. Upstream of the FWIV.
What is the function of the Feedwater Isolation Valves?
To isolate the individual SG from the Feedwater system upon a FWIS or manual action. Downstream of the FWCV.
What is the function of the Heater Drain Tank?
To receive condensate directly from the HP heaters and the moisture separator drain tanks and deliver it directly to the MFW pump suction via 2 heater drain tank pumps. Supplies 34% of total feedwater flow.
