Week 3 - Intro on fundamentals of data analysis Flashcards
What kind of data would need to be removed before performing the analysis
- Ineligibe respondents (sampling frame error)
- Lack of cooperation (nonresponse error)
- incomplete surveys (nonresponse error)
- inconsistencies and ambiguities in the raw data
- Omissions (response errors).
What can you do to identify the errors and anomalies in data screening before the analysis
- You can look at the data distribution (bell curve or not)
- check all the answers one by one
- make box-plot
- look at the frequency they asnwered strongly agree or strongly disagree
What is weighting data
a procedure done to give more weight in the analysis to some of the data on the premise that some respondent will be harder to get but they represent more in the target population. It is to get a more representative data.
What are the data analysis techniques seen in class
- Nominal
- Ordinal
- Interval
- Ratio
What is nominal data ?
Data with a name. For example the eye color
What is ordinal data ?
Data in which there is a natrual order but the interval is not clear for example the level of education
What is interval data ?
Data in which the interval between the answers is correct. for example 1-2 ans 2-3 in the case of temperatures
What is ratio data ?
It is the same as interval but there is a true 0 so the ratio can be calculated
What is a non-parametric test ?
a test in which the median is informative
What is a parametric test ?
a test in which the median is informative
You would use ___ data analysis to know the association between two variable
bivariate
You would use ___ data analysis for data screening
univariate
What are inferential statistics ?
To make a judgement - observe difference between
groups, draw inferences (i.e. conclusion beyond the data
itself)
What is multivariate data analysis ?
The analysis of more than two variable at the same time : Procedures for analysing the association between two or
more sets of measurements on each object in one or
more samples of objects
What are the two key type of multivariate analysis ?
- Analysis of dependance
2. Analysis of interdependence
