Week 2 Cardiovascular System 1 of 4 Flashcards
Anatomical landmarks:
Reference lines are:
Midsternal Midclavicular Vertebral Anterior axillary Posterior axillary Midaxillary
Suprasternal notch located –
between the clavicles
Sternum
(Angle of Louis)
Manubriosternal angle
Costal angle – usually
90 degrees or less
contractility:
ventricles contract during systole
common diseases of the heart:
- Congestive heart failure
- Cardiomyopathy
- Arrhythmias
- Coronary artery disease
- Hypertension
- Rheumatic heart disease
- Bacterial endocarditis
- Congenital heart disease
Pain from pulmonary, intestinal, gallbladder, or musculoskeletal sources could cause what?
Chest pain
*Cardiac pain should be ruled out
Mumur-
- Mid-systolic click followed by a soft grade I murmur that crescendos up to S2
- High pitched
Mumur’s are heard best at
apex or left sternal border
Different types of tachyarrhythmias:
- sinus tachy
- PSVT
- A.fib
- VTach
Fatigue and SOB common complaint with this arrhythmia
bradyarrhythmias
Bradyarrhythmias are:
- Normal aging process includes a decrease in heart rate.
- Heart Blocks
- Sinus Node Pathology
- Can lead to HF in the elderly and those with predisposed heart disease.
*can be med induced
bradyarrhythmias in the elderly may cause
confusion and/or syncope
heard on assessment: a Mid-systolic click followed by a soft sound that crescendos up to S2.
