Week 2 Antianginals Flashcards
What are the three common drug classes used to treat angina?
Nitrates
Beta-blockers
Calcium channel blockers
What is the treatment goal for antianginal medications
Restore O2 supply to meet cardiac demand
What actions do nitrates provide that reduce angina?
Decreased venous tone, decreased cardiac workload, vaso dilation of coronary arteries
What actions do beta-blockers provide that reduce angina?
Decreased cardia workload and O2 demands by blocking the action of catecholamines. This decreased HR and BP
What actions do Calcium channel-blockers provide that reduce angina?
Decreased cardiac workload and O2 demand by relaxing coronary artery spasm, peripheral arterioles, decreasing cardiac contractility, and decreasing peripheral resistance (decreasing afterload and workload)
What order of antianginal medications is given with classic angina?
- Nitrates
- Nitrates+beta-blockers
- Nitrates + beta-blockers + Calcium channel blockers
- Coronary Bypass surgery
What order of antianginal medications is given with variant angina?
- Nitrates
- Nitrates + Calcium channel blockers
- Coronary bypass surgery
