Includes functional ambulation and transportation of objects

Bridging
Involves flexing the hips and knees and pushing with feet against bed to elevate and shift pelvis
Logroll
Moving from sitting to supine without rotating the back or hips
Trapeze Bar
Maximizes the use of upper extremities for bed mobility
Wheelchair Mobility
Positioning in wheelchair is important
Neutral pelvic tilt
Footrests should support the legs in approx. 90 degrees of hip and knee flexion

What are some mobility devices?
Cane

When would you use a cane?
Minor weakness
Impairment in balance or pain
Top of cane should be around the level of the patient’s wrist crease when they are standing upright with arms at the sides
Hold cane in hand opposite the weaker or painful leg
Why would you use a walker?
Expand an individual’s base of support
Four additional points of contact with the ground
Why would you use crutches?
Temporary method of keeping weight off an injured limb
Two additional points of contact with the ground
