What are examples of Latin influences in medical terminology?
“Musculus” (muscle), “vertebra” (spine), “medulla” (marrow).
What is a prefix in medical terminology?
A part added to the beginning of a word to modify its meaning.
What is a suffix in medical terminology?
A part added to the end of a word to change its meaning.
How is “cardiomyopathy” broken down?
“Cardio-“ (heart) + “myo-“ (muscle) + “-pathy” (disease) = heart muscle disease.
What does “hyperkyphosis” mean?
An excessive outward curvature (hump) of the spine.

Bone (from Greek).

Muscle (from Greek).

“Spondylo-“ (spine) + “-itis” (inflammation) = inflammation of the vertebrae.

“Radix” (root) + “-pathy” (disease) = a nerve root disorder.
