A

Upward is flows from subordinates to superiors and helps manager deal quickly with problems. Downward flows from superiors to subordinates via poster, email, fact to face, and meetings.

A

  1. Indemnify- who’s calling, who are you calling about
  2. Situation- state problem, and when it occurred
  3. Background- what is clinical background and context
  4. Assessment- what is assessment, latest vital signs
  5. Recommendation- what needs to be done
  6. Repeat back- repeat back any orders and clarify questions

Useful for RN report to doctors and shift change report.

EMC: allows contact with strangers, time to compose message, develop new relationships, can help us maintain relationship, BUT open to misinterpretation, nonverbal are different because they rely on words, risks of confidentiality, feedback delayed
