What is communication?
It is acting on info, making sense of the world and sharing it with others verbally/non-verbal.
What are the 3 elements of interspersonal communication?
- Distinctive form of communication
- Transaction involving mutual influence between individuals
- Helps us manage our relationships
Communication in nursing?
Nursing is foundation for creating personal and therapeutic interpersonal relationships.
What is a therapeutic relationship?
Focused on needs of client. Between RN and client. Goal to help manage client’s health and promote independence in their lives.
Core concepts of therapeutic relationship?
Establish trust, empathy, self awareness, knowledge, aware of ethics and professional role.
What way of thinking considers the intrapersonal aspect and context of health care situations?
Relational orientation.
What is intrapersonal communication?
It requires self reflection. Relationship between ones thoughts and ones communication with others. It is with oneself.
Interpersonal communications goals?
Improve relationship with fam/friends, improve emotional/physical health, and it is the building block of therapeutic relationships.
What is metacognition?
About self reflection and your ability to learn from your reflections. Being meta means being self reflective.
What is mass communication?
Some communicates same message to many people at once, but creator is not present. Occurs on media or radio.
What is public communication?
Speaker address large audience in person.
