Weather Variables Flashcards
1
Q
Meteorologists:
A
- “weather reporter”
- Collects and studies weather variables to make a prediction about the weather
2
Q
Weather Variables Definition:
A
- Measurable factors that tell us the condition of the atmosphere at any given time
- Require instruments to measure
- Change constantly
- Give us the weather
3
Q
Variables List:
A
- Temperature
- Atmospheric Pressure
- Wind
- Humidity
4
Q
Temperature:
A
- The measure of the average kinetic energy in a system
- Sun to Earth interaction determines the temperature
- Measured with a thermometer (Celsius or Fahrenheit)
5
Q
Atmospheric Pressure:
A
- Caused by the weight of the air
- Air is lighter if it has more moisture in it
- Measured with a barometer
- Units are millibars (mb) or inches (in)
6
Q
Wind:
A
-Caused by the unequal heating of Earth’s atmosphere
-Measured with an anemometer or a wind vane
Units are mph or knots
7
Q
Humidity:
A
- Caused by the amount of moisture in the air
- Measured with a hydrometer or a sling psychrometer (%)
