Acute phase
Rice - rest, ice, compress and elevate
Wound healing
It’s the process by which the skin / organ repairs after injury
Acute phase - just happened - RiCE
Sub-acute - 48-72 hours tissues begins to repair
Remodelling / rehabilitation - 7 days collagen fibres laid down, 20 days scar tissue present, 120 days 80-90% of original strength
A wound trying to achieve homeostasis
Achieved by clotting in any damaged region of the circulatory system
Signs and symptoms of inflammation
Redness, heat, swelling, pain, loss of function
Rehabilitation
Pain is gone and swelling is down. Return to exercise with care. Start with gentle exercise and increase ROM. Graded resistance with light weights. Stretch. Massage to warm up muscles and rice after exercise.
