Hip Flashcards
What joint is the hip?
Ball and socket joint
Which bones make up the hip?
Femur and innominate bone
Name some of the ligaments
Transverse acetabular ligament, pubofemoral ligament, ischiofemoral ligament
Muscles involved in hip flexion
Ilipsoas, tfl, rectus femoris, sartorius, pectineus, adductor longus, adductor brevis, adductor Magnus, glut med
Muscles involved in hip extension
Gluteus maximus, hamstrings, adductor Magnue, glut med, piriformis
Muscles involved in hip abduction
Glut med and min, tfl, sartorius, glut max, gemilli, oburator internus
Muscles involved in hip adduction
Adductor Magnus, longus, brevis, gracilis, pectineus, obtruator externus
Muscles involved in medial rotation of the hip
Anterior glut med and min, tfl, gracilis, adductor longus, brevis, semi membranous, and semi tendanous
Muscles involved in lateral rotation of the hip joint
Glut max, add longus, Brevis, Magnus, the deep six (piriformis, obtrurator, internist, externus, gemilli superior and inferior, quadratus femoris
Assisted by sartorius, ilipsosas, glut med and long head of bicep femoris
TFL (tensor fascia lata)
Origin - iliac crest, posterior to the anterior superior iliac spine
Insertion - iliotibial tract
Action - extension of the knee, abduction of the hip, flexion of the hip, medial rotation of the hip,
Rectus Femoris
Origin - anterior inferior iliac spine
Insertion - tibia tuberosity via the patella and patella ligament
Action - flexion of the hip, extension of the knee, lateral rotation of the knee,
Sartorius
Origin - anterior superior iliac spine
Insertion - proximal, medial shaft of the tibia at pes anserinus tendon
Action - flexion of the knee, flexion of the hip, abduction of the hip
Assists with lateral rotation of the hip
Semi tendinous
Origin - ischial tuberocity
Insertion - proximal, medial shaft of the tibia at pes anserinus tendon
Action - flexion of the knee, medial rotation of the knee, extension of the hip, medial rotation of the hip,
Semi membranous
Origin - ischial tuberosity
Insertion - posterior aspect of the medial condyle of tibia
Action - flexion of the knee, medial rotation of the knee, extension of the hip, medial rotation of the hip
Biceps femoris
Origin - lateral lip of the linea aspera
Insertion - head of the fibula
Action - flexion of the knee, extension of the hip
Assists - lateral rotation of the hip
