wave transportation Flashcards
solution
minerals that have been dissolved into the water
suspension
small particles of sand, silt and clay - carried by currents
saltation
larger material that can’t constantly be carried by suspension - carried short distance - then dropped again
traction
large particles - pushed along the sea floor by the force of the flow
LSD
wave approaches the coast at right angle due to direction of dominant wind - when wave breaks sediment carried up beach as swash at oblique angle - potential energy and gravity cause wave to fall back down beach as backwash - this movement repeated causes sediment to be moved along the beach - leads to attrition of beach sediment causing particles to become smaller
