Explain Jay’s treaty

A

Washington choses Jay to go and talk to make a plan with britain. He worked out a treaty and it called for Britain to pay for the damages of American ships and Briatin had to give up forts in the Ohio Valley. Also the treaty called for Americans having to pay debts to British merchants, owed from before the revolution. The treaty didn’t agree for Briatain to stop taking U.S ships.

What does sedition mean?

A

When you are doing something bad to the government and trying to overthrow them

What is the alien act?

A

Allows the president to expel any alien=foreigner, that was thought to be dangerous to the country. Also it made it harder for immigrants to become citizens because the immagrant has to be in the country for 14 years instead of earlier when it was only 5 years.

What is the sedition act?

A

It means stirring up rebellion against the government. Citizens could be fined or jailed if broke this law. It was illegal to critizize the president, Congress, but not the vice president. Violated the first amendment.
