Why was Jackson called old hickory?
A
He was tough as the wood of a hickory tree. Hickory trees are very strong. Soldiers and friends called him this.

What was the kitchen cabinet?
A
Jackson relied on a group unofficial advisors that were not approved by the Senate. He met with them in the white house kitchen.

Who was Nicolas Biddle?
A
1st president of the national bank since 1823. He was well qualified to run the bank and Jackson disliked him because he thought Biddle was using the bank to favor the rich people.

What was the spoils system?
A
When Jackson took office and fired many government employees, and replaced them with his own supporters. Then he rewarded his supporters with government jobs.
