Science flashcards
Allele
Each version of a gene, can be dominant or recessive.
Homozygous
You have 2 identical alleles for one trait. Can be two dominant or two recessive alleles.
Heteroygous
You have 2 different alleles for one trait. Has one dominant and one recessive alleles.
Genotype
Together your two alleles for a trait.
Phenotype
How you actually express the trait.
Dominant
Has capital letters
Masks recessive alleles
Codominant
In heteroygous individuals , two different alleles can both be equally expressed. Neither is dominant or recessive.
Recessive
Has lower case letters
Gets masked by dominant alleles
Incomplete dominance
In heteroygous genotypes, two different alleles are expressed as a blended, intermediate phenotype.
