PWS : in flight, when does the weather radar begin scanning for windshear ?

PWS alerts are enabled approximately 12 seconds after weather radar begins scanning for windshear.

In flight with the WXR switch pushed or not pushed, weather radar begins scanning for windshear below 2,300 feet radio altitude and PWS alerts are enabled below 1,200 feet radio altitude.

PWS : how far ahead will the PWS issue alerts on the ground and in flight ?

  • On the ground : between 0.5 and 3 NM

In the event the Alerting and Transponder Control Panel (ATP) fails, the Tuning Control Panel (TCPs) provides a backup AURAL CANCEL soft key.

On the TCP : MENU > ALERT/XPDR CTL ON > 1R ➙ AURAL CANCEL

Note : With ALERT/XPDR CTL set to ON, the ATP no longer controls the aural cancel function.
