Colonization
A process where the colonizer or colonizing country takes over another place, putting their own government in charge.
Islands of development
Place built up by a government or corporation to attract foreign investments and has relatively high concentration of paying jobs and infrastructure.
Reverse Remittances
When people in poorer countries send money to the migrants. E.g family members in Nigeria send money to their families that are unemployed.
Bracero Program
An agreement between U.S and Mexican governments that permitted Mexican citizens to take temporary agricultural work in the United states.

A set of theories about migration developed in the late nineteenth century by Ernst Georg Ravenstein.
Selective immigration
Process to control immigration in which individuals with certain backgrounds are barred from immigrating.
Activity Spaces
The space within which daily activities occurs.
Immigration Policy/Laws
Laws that can regulate who can come in, when they can, and how.
Repatriation
A refugee or group of refugees returning to their home country usually with the assistance of government or a NGO

Type of push or pull factor that influences a migrant’s decision to go where family or friends have already found success.
