Asylum seeker
Someone who has migrated to another country in hope of being recognized as a refugee.
Internally displaced Person
Someone who has been forced to
migrate for similar political reasons as a refugee but has not migrated across an international border.
Cyclic movement
Movement away from home for a short period. Under 6 months
Periodic movement
Movement away from home for a longer period.
Transhumance
Humans that move with their herds of cows or horses.
Distance decay
The farther away a place is the less likely you are to migrate or move to it.
Intervening opportunities
At one of the steps on the migration path, pull factors encourage the migrant to settle there.
Refugee
 A person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.
Nomadism
Movements among a definite set of places. Cyclic movement. People who move with the seasons
Chain Migration
The pattern of migration develops when migrants move along through kinship links. People migrate somewhere because they know a family that previously migrated there.
