Township and Range system/ Rectangular survey system
is based on a grid system that creates 1 square mile sections. (US most used)
Long-lot Survey System
divides land into narrow sections/parcels stretching back from rivers, major roads or something impactful.
Meets and bounds survey systems
uses natural feautures / physical features to demarcate irregular parcels of land. (this was the way land was allocated).
Plantation Agriculture
Plantation agriculture is defined as one or two, cash crops, grown on a large sector of land.
Typically takes place in tropical climates
e.g tobacco, cotton, rice e.t.c.
Luxury crops
These are crops that are grown for it’s high value not for human survival or susteinance e.g coffee, tea, tobacco, vannila, chocolate.
Cash crops
An agricultural crop that is grown for profit. e.g corn, wheat, cotton.
Crop rotation
Crop rotation is the practice of alternating crops grown on a specific field in a planned pattern or sequence in successive crop years so that crops of the same species are not grown without interruption on the same field.
Agribusiness
Agriculture + Business
The business sector that encompasses farming and farming related commercial activities.
Von-thunen model
explains agricultural land use pattern. focuses on the relationship between the cost of land and the cost of transportation.
Bid-rent theory
the closer the land is to the central or capital the more competion there would be for the land and the more expensive it is.
Aquaculture
The cultivation of aquatic organisms or even aquatic plants.
