Standard Language
The form of a language used for official government, business, education e.t.c but not legally enforced.
Mutual Intelligibility
When people that are communicating can understand each others languages even without knowing it previously because they are similar.
Dialect
variants of a standard language along regional or ethnic lines in terms of spelling, pronunciation, and vocabulary.
Threatened Language
A language used for face to face communication but is losing users. Not being taught by parents to children.
Extinct language
A language that once used but is no longer used by people.
Language Divergence
isolation leads to one language branching up into different languages.
Isogloss
A boundary that separates regions in which different language usage predominate.
Nomadic Warrior/Conquest Theory
The theory that people from the kurgan hearth used power and conquest to spread their language around.
Lingua Franca
A language that is commonly understood by different people of different languages and is used for trade.
Romance languages
The 4 most widely used are Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, and Romanian.
Germanic Languages
it is a branch of the Indo-European Family. It brings out North and West Germanic.
Pidgin Language
A form of language pieces of English and other languages to something everyone can understand.
